Bulletstorm, unlike any other modern-day FPS, incorporate an unusual gameplay mechanic called “Kill with Skill”. So what so special with this “Kill with Skill”? We’ll discuss further on this review.
Revenge is Sweet, No?
Player takes role as Grayson, an ex-mercenary. After found out that he and his team are just being a tool to cover their boss, Sarrano’s corruption all this time, Grayson and his team are trying to kill Sarrano on his flagship, but sadly the plan is end up in complete failure.
Grayson & Ishi
This failure has caused everyone on Grayson's team dead (except his partner, Ishi who being cyborg-lized), and in result Grayson and Ishi got stranded on a wasteland planet. Fortunately, Sarrano’s flagship also crash-landed on the same planet, which means...yeah…you've guessed it, it’s time for REVENGE!
Kill with Skill
Although it’s just another FPS, there’s something that makes Bulletstorm completely different from other. The “Skillshot” system is a feature inside Bulletstorm game that allows player to kill enemies in a certain way, like kicking enemies toward spikes or high-voltage objects (or even cactus!), killing enemies by explosions, making them fall or sink, headshots, and more.
That’s gonna hurt.
Each skillshot has unique (or perhaps weird) names, like Voodoo Doll, Enviro-mental, Bullet Kick, Afterburner, First In Last Out, etc. For each points awarded, player can spent it to upgrade weapons or buying ammunitions. There are about a hundred skillshots to be unlocked, and most of them are quite challenging to master.
However skillshots aren’t the only way to get points, the game will also lets you to do something simpler to rack points, such as pressing/holding a button (especially to focus the view to a specific area/event),or blow something up (newsbots, electric fireflies, etc).
Is that electric Fireflies???
Player can use various bizarre weapons, from Peacemaker Assault Rifle (which also acts as a shotgun), Screamer revolver pistol, Flail chain-grenade launcher (which really latches into enemy) to the Head Hunter sniper rifle that fires remote-controlled bullets. Grayson can use another unique weapon, named The Leash and just like the name, it fires a beam that catches objects and enemies toward you so that you can kick them to somewhere else.
Sadly, there’s only one multiplayer mode available; the anarchy mode, which is your typical GoW’s Horde mode, but with each team competiting for the highest team score. And there is another one called Echo mode, where player do the singleplayer campaign, and the score can be submitted into online highscore board. With just one (or maybe two) multiplayer modes, as well as quite short singleplayer campaign length, Bulletstorm has a below average replay value.
Presentation
I'm actually want to ask a same question...
Speaking about the graphics; Bulletstorm obviously has a gorgeous graphic. EPIC has successfully maximized the latest Unreal Engine’s capabilities on this game hence the game went on very smooth. The sound effects and voice actings are just average, but there are SO MANY profanities (even in par of Grand Theft Auto or Duke Nukem series), so be warned. This is definitely not a game for children!
Although it somehow lacked of replay value, Bulletstorm has proved itself to be more exciting than a standard FPS today, although for some people, they might still think that this game is just another FPS game.
