After the success with the first Dead Rising game, Capcom, together with Canadian game developer, Blue Castle Games tries to add even more zombies in their second installment. But, will it be any good?
Story
Dead Rising 2 set five years after the first game. Player takes role as an ex-motocross racer, Chuck Greene, which is claimed to be responsible for zombie outbreak in Fortune City.
While Chuck, and some other people still trapped inside "the ocean of zombie" Fortune City, Chuck also has to prove that he’s innocent, by rescuing survivors, plus Chuck has to give his daughter, Katey a daily dose of Zombrex (anti-zombie virus medicine) to keep her alive. And he has only three days to prove his innocence, before the military arrives to neutralize the city.
Zombie Outbreak can be Good
The gameplay is pretty much the same with the first Dead Rising, for example, Chuck levels up after getting enough PP, accepting missions via walkie-talkie, and obviously, killing nearly-endless amount of zombies. Aside of that, one of the most noteworthy new feature is the combo card system, where player can combine two different weapons in a maintenance room. Not only more powerful but the combined weapon will give you more PP each time you kill a zombie than a normal regular weapon. Just remember that every weapon can be broken after a couple of while or if it used too much.
Anything can become your weapons.
If singleplayer mode still can’t satisfy you, player can hunt zombies together in multiplayer, where they could be either cooperative, or competitive (Terror is Reality). There’s a benefit in playing multiplayer though, as player will get PPs and cash for the singleplayer mode.
Gameplay problems lie in the somewhat awkward controls, annoying mission time limits, even though the time limit is quite plenty, it’s still a bit difficult to complete every side-quests scattered around the city while completing the story mission. Luckily to balance this problem, you can restart the story with all the previous level experience and achievements. So in the new restart games, you can fight zombies and bosses more easily with your previous level and knowledge of weapons combination.

The graphics looks decent and so does the sound effects and voice acting. The sound effects did a good job in making the atmosphere more fun and realistic. Although this game doesn’t have tons of improvements from its prequel, Dead Rising 2 still a game where ’smashing zombies never been this fun before’ and with tons of weapons combination, you can find lots of way to kill the zombies in a fun way.
