LA Noire

LA Noire

If Rockstar usually makes a game about anti-hero or criminal protagonist, then L.A. Noire will be different. In this game, player will takes role as a law enforcer, or to be exact, a detective...

L.A. Noire takes place in the classic 1940’s Los Angeles (hence the title). Player will play as a LAPD detective named Cole Phelps, and solving various criminal cases in Los Angeles.

Although it’s still an open-world game just like any other Rockstar titles, it doesn’t mean that L.A. Noire will have plenty of side-missions and other activities aside the story mission; the gameplay will be more linear compared to other Rockstar titles. Fortunately, Rockstar adds some features in order to prevent this game being too linear, such as random events, where various events, such as crimes, could randomly occurs, even while player trying to complete a case, and player will be able to help the other cops to accomplish their task.

While the main gameplay emphasizes on finding evidences and interacting with witnesses, L.A. Noire still obviously have action element such as shooting and vehicle chase portions, which somewhat will reminds us with the Grand Theft Auto series. Player can also choose into three different options (believe/coax, doubt/force, and disbelieve/accuse) in interacting with other people character in game. Phelps also has a handy notebook which is very important in collecting evidences and clues.

Another awesome feature is the usage of motion-scanning technology. Thanks to it, every in-game character’s expression looks almost like a real person, especially when they are talking and showing their realistic facial animation.

L.A. Noire will be released in Q2 2011 for both PS3 and Xbox 360 (although it’s supposed to be a PS3 exclusive at first). Hopefully Team Bondi’s two year struggle in developing this game won’t end up in vain.
