Who never heard about Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior)? I’m pretty sure that almost all the RPG gamers all around the world are familiar with these 2 titles. Speaking about the success of both games above, Of course! We knew that SquareEnix is the famous developer behind those titles.

Square-Enix has been working with Masyarakat Industri Kreatif TIK Indonesia (MIKTI) in which Indonesia has been chosen as the first Asian country to hold this event. Previously, Square-Enix was surveying to several Asian countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Philippines but at the end, they were interested and decided to choose Indonesia. Certainly, this is a big pride for Indonesian people and a big chance to get more attention from international game market. As a giant company, Square-Enix is not only concerning about their individual success but also the development of game industry all around the world, especially in Asiaregion. One of the way is to support our local game industry by holding the Android-based mobile game competition. Android was chosen as it is the popular platform of smartphone these days.

The competition that has been started on August 1st, will choose the 3 best games and 10 best idea games for Android-based mobile games, with the judging will take place at once in two holder countries. 19-22 August in Jakarta, continue on 23-27 August in Tokyo, Japan. Later, the works of the winners will be presented at ICT Award in Jakarta on next 4-5 October. Besides that, Square-Enix planned to provide some fund in order to market the winner’s games in Indonesiamarket and also other countries.

Another interesting thing is that the winners will have the copyrights of their games and will achieve the royalty of the games after Square-Enix publish those games. As said by Secretary-General of MIKTI, Hari Sungkari. “In this competition, the winners will keep enjoying the fruit of their creativity by the royalty they will received after being marketed by Square-Enix”, he said. Furthermore, the winners with MIKTI will act as the developer and publisher at once with a total fund of Rp 90 million provided by Square-Enix as the initial fund to develop and publish the games of the winners in Indonesiamarket and all over the world.

The promotion of the event would be very special because it will bring some big names in game industry. MIKTI will present Takashi Tokita, the new producer of Square-Enix who has just launched game Final Fantasy Legends for mobile phone. Moreover, MIKTI will be collaborating with British Council in order to present figure of a Legendary Producer of Tomb Raider and President of Eidos, Ian Livingstone. Eidos itself, now has become a child company to Square-Enix.

The Roadshow in Indonesia will be held in 3 big cities, which are Bandung (9 Agustus), Jakarta (11 Agustus), and Yogyakarta (12 Agustus). Event competition like this must be very motivating for all Indonesian gamers especially the local game developers to bring forward the game industry in Indonesia into the world. Hopefully, with an event like this, our local game industry will become more advance and more widely known in the international game industry.
